Get on blocked websites at school, always works

Most people use proxy websites, but most of those eventually get detected and blocked themselves.
There is only one sure way of getting past the school website blocked no matter what, and that is through the TOR browser. You basically download TOR to your flash drive and pull it up from the flash drive onto the school computers. How exactly does this work? Does it use it's own proxy? or what?

im not sure exactly, you just run it, and its own browser pops up and gets passed any blocks.
